Two harsh truths about hope
Why do we keep hope when...
we're in a labyrinth of dead ends,
greed is exponential,
people we love suffer and die,
we may never reach our destination?
The answer, which allows us to have an honest relationship with hope, lies in two harsh realities.
One.
We live within the limits of our time on Earth. Suffering and death come when they come and it's not Hope's job to change that.
Two.
Hope isn't about you. Or, it isn't about 'just' you. It happens in the greater context of humanity. If you're keeping hope only for things that help you, you're doing it wrong.
You see, we watch others keep hope. We see it transform. In turn, we keep hope so that others see it in us and keep it themselves.
Hope transforms lives. It may not transform yours or mine but it will transform others.
Hope is evolutionary. We may not live to see the results. But, our hopes transform the future, even the future we're not in.
Hope won't cure childhood hunger. But it will prevent it at times and this prevention is what sustains humanity.
Think of it. How has the hope of people before you influenced your time on Earth?
If you can't keep hope for yourself, keep it for others.
